These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Inkslips, including the website at inkslips.com, studio booking pages at inkslips.com/<studio>, the Inkslips apps, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, booking through a studio's page, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Inkslips is booking and studio software for tattoo studios and independent tattoo artists ("Studios"). Studios use it to publish a booking page, take bookings and deposits, keep client records, send appointment and aftercare messages, and run their day. People who book with a Studio ("Clients") use it to book, pay deposits, sign the Studio's forms and manage their appointments.
Inkslips is not a tattoo studio. Each Studio is an independent business. The Studio, not Inkslips, decides its services, rates, deposits, policies, designs and the tattoo work itself, and is responsible for them.
Sumi is a text-first software assistant for authorized Studio owners and staff. It may answer questions about using Inkslips, answer questions about the Studio from the Studio's own data, prepare supported work for review, and show a preview of an action. Nothing changes until an authorized person reviews the preview and confirms it. Sumi does not move money, delete records or change permissions, and it never does the work of a person: the tattoo, the design, judgements about skin or healing, or medical advice.
Typed requests. When you type a request and submit it by selecting Send (or another displayed submit action such as Enter), you instruct Inkslips to store the text you reviewed and, where an answer or plan is needed, to send that text and limited Studio context to Anthropic, our AI model provider, to produce it. If Anthropic is unavailable, the request may be processed by OpenAI as a backup provider under the same limits.
Voice input. Microphone input is optional and only in the web app. Before recording, Inkslips names OpenAI as the speech-to-text provider and asks you to select Continue before requesting microphone permission. Each recording is started by you and limited in length and size. Selecting Continue authorizes Inkslips and OpenAI to process that recording to produce a transcript. You review and can edit the transcript before you submit it.
Your duties. You must review transcripts, AI-written text, names, dates, amounts, recipients and every proposed action before you confirm it. Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. You may record only your own spoken request, and you must not use Sumi to record a call, an appointment or another person without their consent and any notice the law requires. Do not submit client health information, payment card numbers or passwords to Sumi.
Availability. Access to Sumi may depend on your plan, your role, usage limits, provider availability and safety controls, and Inkslips may pause or restrict it when needed. Sumi is available only after you accept the current version of these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

The Service relies on third-party providers, including Stripe for payments, Clerk for sign-in, Supabase for data storage, Vercel for hosting, Twilio for text messages, an email delivery provider, Anthropic for typed assistant processing, and OpenAI for optional speech-to-text and backup assistant processing. Their terms may apply to your use of the features they provide. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. SUMI TRANSCRIPTS, ANSWERS AND PREVIEWS ARE MACHINE-GENERATED, MAY BE WRONG, AND ARE NOT MEDICAL, LEGAL, TAX OR FINANCIAL ADVICE. INKSLIPS DOES NOT PERFORM, SUPERVISE OR GUARANTEE ANY TATTOO OR OTHER SERVICE A STUDIO PROVIDES.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, INKSLIPS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE OR DATA. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID INKSLIPS IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR US$100 IF YOU PAID NOTHING. SOME PLACES DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITS, SO THEY MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
Studios agree to defend and indemnify Inkslips against claims arising from their services, their tattoo work, their policies, their content, or their breach of these Terms or the law.
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms, create risk for others, or if the law requires it. When an account ends, access to the Service and to Sumi history ends; you can export your data first from your settings. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as content ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability and indemnity) survive termination.

We may update these Terms. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will give at least 30 days' notice by posting the new version at inkslips.com/terms and, where appropriate, by email or in the app. Sumi requires acceptance of the current version before it can be used.
